Our New Babies!

We have been blessed with two new babies on the ridge, and could not be happier!

This photo above was taken the day we brought them home.  Our baby on the left is Bandit, and on the right is Taz.  They are sisters, and are currently 8 months old.  They are a quarter Healer, and three quarter Jack Russell.  A lot has changed in our daily routine since the girls arrived on the ridge!

We didn’t want predators coming in the yard, and the girls are full of running energy, so we opted to install a chain link fence.

The joy these pups have given us are simply immeasurable!

We are in the process of upgrading the kitchen, and I will be posting the long overdue process very soon!

November 5, 2022

It has been awhile since we last posted.  Life is going crazy fast these days!

The barn blew down in a storm, and missed our new building by 19 inches!  We were very fortunate and definitely had the guiding hand of God protecting our big investment!  The wind blew just right, and the old barn plunged forward, and now we are working to disassemble the trouble on the ground.

We had really wanted it down, because we didn’t want it to fall on someone, or our wild animals who frequented it, or any other things, so we aren’t sad about it, just hadn’t figured it in the schedule…so it goes!  Lol!

Our new addition to the farm!  A diesel tank that holds 266 gallons of fuel.  We have been concerned about the availability and the raising price of fuel for awhile now, and since everything on the farm uses diesel, well, it’s peace of mind.  I thought we might need to take out a small business loan to get it filled…haha!

The blueberries are tucked in with pine straw for the winter.

Everything is winding down on the ridge.  The fall colors were excellent this year, but they were very early, by nearly three weeks!  The mums this year were very bright also!

Some sunrise pics for y’all to enjoy!  Hope ya get some porch sittin in on this great fall!

Won’t be long till we head somewhere south for the winter, and I certainly hope to catch up on this blog!

Get a great week everybody!

Found this on the internet, and I don’t know who the carver was to give credit, but it spoke to my soul!  Hope y’all enjoy it too!

 August 22, 2022

We continue to keep a steady stream of sweat running off our faces!  Lol !

We did however loose an entire month due to poison oak!  We had a standing dead ash tree fall onto one of our fields, and our first thought was one of pure joy… look at how much firewood we could harvest!

I saw some vines on the old trunk of the tree, and looked at the leaves of the vine, to make sure it wasn’t poison ivy.  The leaves looked like green oak leaves.  We worked on that tree for three days.  The forth morning, we noticed swelled mosquito bite spots on our legs, and arms.  We thought maybe some mosquitoes had invaded during the night.  During breakfast on that forth morning, we noticed some blisters forming on the mosquito bites…darn!

We tried every single home remedy we heard of, from white shoe polish dabbed on, to menthol salve dabbed on.  It was ridiculous really!

After 21 days, our nightmare was over, but I can promise y’all that that tree was tractor pushed off into the woods to rot!  Honestly, I can’t think of any worse thing to have!

Anyway… the tomatoes are done in the garden.

The sweet potato squash is looking awesome!

The Gracie beans are blooming, so we will be covered up in beans in about three weeks.

The above picture is of the Lima beans.  I have never grown limas before, so this is my maiden growing.  The lower picture above is of the Gracie beans blooming.  They are such a pretty white!

Hope y’all have a wonderful week, and close out this month with some real porch sittin, and coffee sippin!

Happy Independence Day!

I can’t believe that the month of June completely passed by, and I have not posted!

We have been very busy in the garden, and putting up our bounty!

Early onions put up in the cellar.  I have never hung and dried onions before, so the jury is still out on how this preservation method will work for us.

Put up sweet relish, corn salsa, dill pickles, pickled beets, and regular salsa.  The shelves in the cellar are filling up.

We have had great success with the potato bed this year. So far I have only dug out a third of the trough, and we are pleased as punch that potatoes are not a fail in the water trough garden bed.

That’s about all we have for now, but some great projects are coming up, and I will be posting on them soon.

Get outside and and get some porch sittin done!

 Memorial Day

May 30, 2022

Pictures do tell the whole story.  From 2018, to 2022 there has been a lot of improvement!

That was a little bit of a shocker, because it doesn’t seem as though we worked that hard, but I guess we did!

Another round of bush hogging.  The grass should be good enough next year for hay, and we are going to over seed some more Timothy this fall, and possibly some orchard grass.

 May 17, 2022

I have tried six ways of Sunday to reply to comments  on my blog, and to no avail.  Guess if you all are patient enough, I will reply to the comments on my next following blog.  So sorry that I am dumbfounded by this #@&§?! technology glitch!

Thank you Leigh, and Rosalea, I didn’t know if the water trough garden beds would work, but they have certainly removed a lot of doubt that we had.  I am trying to get an additional two every fall, and hope to wind up with twenty total…we will see, Lol !

The brandy I make is just a simple recipe, and it is a way for me to use up all the frozen fruit that we didn’t eat up.  Freezer space is needed for this coming season.

It does make for some great Christmas giveaways!

I did two additional recipes this week, to use up some strawberries.

I put the date it will be ready to filter and bottle.  I just searched on line making brandy with frozen fruit.  I have enjoyed the blackberry brandy a lot!  HaHa!

We have also worked on getting the little trailer wooden floor preserved, since it lost its space in the garage to our travel trailer!  We pressure washed the wood, then did two coats of wood stain sealer.

We also have been working on the front flag pole flower bed.  The dirt had eroded around the bed, and the stones were all falling precariously all around the darn thing.  We took it all apart, and added some mulchey dirt.  I had to split a couple of stones to make it even.  It worked without much trouble.

We haven’t finished the project yet, but I will be posting when it’s done.

Look what showed up this morning!

Sweet potato squash!  I’m so very happy!

We did manage to get a motorcycle ride in this week!

Get a great week and of course…some porch sittin done!
