We have been enjoying the produce from the water trough garden.

Last week we processed 7 cabbage, and replanted 4 more.  The sugar snap peas are done, and I have plans to plant beans in their place.  The cucumbers are suffering, as the cut worms have made themselves a new home.  I have reminded myself on several occasions, that this year is all about discovering what will work in the troughs, and what won’t work.  


Our Gracie Beans are doing very well, with this being our first picking.


This is our first Anaheim chili, with the other 7 plants not far behind.  We will certainly have a great bunch of chili to roast this summer!  


This is my second bowl of cucumbers.  We have made all sorts of summer salads, and enjoyed each and every one!



Tomatoes are thriving and not far from turning.

We are still processing firewood in our spare time.  The little boss highly approves of the goings on!

  1. Your garden is so ahead of mine! Dan and I each got a fresh green bean to snack on today, the first. Good for you for giving yourself a learning year with your new trough beds. Dan and I call everything new an experiment, because we know we'll need to learn something to make it work.

    1. Thanks, Leigh, and of course what works one year, may not work the next... lol . I already know that I am going to build the soil better for next year, but you are correct, it is all about learning to make it all work!

  2. Hi Dino! :)) Oh the veggies look great! I wish I had tomatoes this year sigh. Your cukes are so cute! :) I'm glad you're experimenting, it's kind of a long process isn't it?

    1. Oh Rain, thanks so much for stopping by! Yes, it is a long process, and yet, so rewarding! I just love the earth, and digging in dirt just soothes my soul! I am hoping you get some garden time next grow season, but you can certainly live vicariously through us if you’d like! The clues are cute, and almost too cute to eat...lol...not !   3. What a bounty of good food! You are so far ahead of us. My cucs are just starting to think about putting out runners. And beans, Already?! Mine are well up and looking good, but not blooming yet. Just put in my second planting on Friday. What do you process your cabbages into? And yes, digging in the dirt does soothe one's soul!

    1. Well goodness, Rosalea, I am just now seeing your comment. We have been out today working on bucking logs, and making firewood. We usually make relish with the cabbage, which is where the next cabbages will go, but these early cabbage we fried up, and packaged in the freezer. We eat a lot of relish, so much of our corn, cucs and cabbage becomes goodness on the canning shelf...bounty for those cold winter days! Have a terrific week!
