Spring has finally sprung!

  1. Nothing is a happier sight than early spring flowers! So appropriate that they are a beautiful sun-shiny yellow.

    1. For sure, Leigh! They just get sunnier and happier every day!

  2. Forsythia and daffodils!! How cheerful! I just dug the 'deer deterrent' fence out of the snow and put it over the one bed I have tulips in...nothing poking up yet, although the snow is gone from within that bed, but still surrounds it. The deer will soon be migrating through, so want to be prepared as they sample any growing thing! Lovely spring weather here, in the mid to high teens C, (the high 50's F) The maple sap is running, the tree buds are swelling...Yes, it is spring in the north woods! Happy spring!

  3. Yes, spring is definitely in the air! I haven’t been able to get any tulips to grow here on the ridge, because the chipmunks and squirrels keep digging up my bulbs! I do have some pretty irises, but they won’t come out for a couple of weeks. It must be awesome to have the deer come so close to your house, because ours are down in the woods, and don’t come up around the house. Guess we should count our blessings!

    1. When you plant your bulbs, place a piece of chicken wire, or hardware cloth right over the bulbs down in the ground before you fill in the soil. The vermin dig down, hit the wire and are stymied. That worked for me when I lived in town and had to contend with squirrels. The bulbs will shoot up right through the wires with no problem. Thankfully the deer don't come that close to the house, as my gardens are not protected, but we will soon see them grazing around the edges of our clearing, once the grass greens up. The migration only lasts for a couple of weeks, then they all disperse further north and only a few hang around in our bush.

    2. What a wonderful tip on the bulbs! I will sure do that, as I have a lot of the hardware wire at the moment. Thank you so much!
